Insurance Agent

Full-Time | Sioux Falls, SD

First State Insurance Agency Southwest is seeking a driven, competitive Insurance Sales Agent to help grow our commercial insurance book of business. This role is primarily focused on commercial lines sales, with opportunities to support farm and personal lines while maintaining strong client relationships through ongoing service.

This position is ideal for a self-starter who enjoys prospecting, closing deals, and building long-term client relationships, while being supported by an established independent agency with multiple strong carrier options.


What You’ll Do

Sales & Growth (Primary Focus)

  • Actively prospect and generate new commercial insurance opportunities
  • Conduct in-person and field sales appointments with business owners and decision-makers
  • Identify client risks and coverage gaps and present tailored insurance solutions
  • Cross-sell additional lines of coverage to existing clients
  • Consistently meet or exceed weekly, monthly, and annual production goals
  • Build and manage a personal pipeline of prospects and opportunities

Client Management & Service Support

  • Manage accounts from quote to bind and through renewal
  • Assist with policy changes, renewals, and coverage reviews
  • Follow up with prospects and clients to close open opportunities
  • Resolve client concerns professionally and efficiently
  • Maintain accurate documentation of sales activity and client interactions

Marketing & Community Presence

  • Participate in networking, prospecting, and community events
  • Represent the agency at trade shows, seminars, and local events
  • Build your personal brand while promoting First State Insurance Agency Southwest

Training & Compliance

  • Learn agency systems, carrier guidelines, and insurance products
  • Attend required training and continuing education
  • Operate in compliance with all agency, carrier, and regulatory requirements


Who We’re Looking For

  • Highly motivated, goal-oriented, and competitive mindset
  • Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Comfortable with prospecting, follow-ups, and asking for the sale
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple opportunities at once
  • Works well independently while collaborating with a team
  • Sales or insurance experience preferred (but not required)
  • Willing and able to obtain and maintain state insurance licenses (training provided)
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Occasional daytime travel for sales meetings and training.

  • Base salary plus aggressive commission structure
